Santhigiri Ashram founded Santhigiri Siddha Medical College (SSMC) in 2002, following in the footsteps of its founder Guru, NAVAJYOTHISREE KARUNAKARA GURU. This university is the first Siddha Medical College in Kerala history and the first Siddha Medical College outside of Tamil Nadu, the state where the Siddha system originated. Out of the nine Siddha colleges in the country, eight are located in Tamil Nadu, and this one is the only one where the medium of teaching is English rather than Tamil. As a result, Santhigiri Siddha Medical College graduates would have exposure to a global medical community. Students from a wide range of foreign nations, including Switzerland, Japan, and others, are currently enrolled at Santhigiri Siddha Medical College.
The Santhigiri Siddha Medical College seeks to produce physicians who possess the lofty ideals of the ‘Nava Arogya Dharma Siddhantham’ (New Doctrine of Healthcare), as envisioned by Navajyothisree Karunakara Guru, as well as a thorough comprehension and scientific knowledge of the Siddha system in accordance with the system’s fundamentals and extensive practical training.
The “Bachelor of Siddha Medicine and Surgery” (BSMS) program is offered by this college. It has ties to Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS), Thrissur, and the University of Kerala. The Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM), located in New Delhi, has acknowledged it. The four and a half-year degree is divided into three 18-month Professional Periods and a 12-month Compulsory Rotatory Resident Internship (CRRI). After finishing the course, seven batches of students graduated and are now in good professional positions.
This college is situated in peaceful surroundings not far from Thiruvananthapuram. It boasts a distinguished staff, a first-rate hospital with all the necessary specialist divisions, first-rate laboratories, a vast library, and sizable medicinal plant gardens. It also has a pharmacy that is GMP certified.
