About College
Originally known as Assam Homoeopathic Medical College, Dr. J.K.S. Homoeopathic Medical College was founded on October 2, 1975. Subsequently, it was renamed Dr. J. K. Saikia Homoeopathic Medical College in honor of Dr. Jiba Kanta Saikia, the first director of health services for the Assamese government, who donated the main building. Since 1996, this institute has been offering Homoeopathy at the undergraduate level (B.H.M.S.) with success. This course was once associated with Dibrugarh University, but it is now offered annually with 50 places at Srimanta Sankardeva University of Health Science, Guwahati, Assam.
Students in the BHMS course are nominees from other North East Indian states in addition to Assam. In addition, the college operates three hospital outpatient departments, two peripheral outpatient departments, and a state-of-the-art indoor teaching hospital to serve the local healthcare system. Additionally, a variety of health camps, awareness campaigns, etc. are periodically held at various locations. This institute also maintains one herb garden, which has a total size of about 13378 square meters (10 bigha). This institute also effectively maintains student visits to pharmaceutical and forensic laboratories, research centers, medical colleges in other systems, and organizes and participates in state and national seminars in order to enhance their clinical knowledge.
