About College

In addition to being a historically significant institution in India, Ayurvedic and Unani Tibbia College and Hospital is a singular establishment that houses two streams of knowledge. Madarasa e Tibbia was its original name when Haziq-Ul-Mulk Hakim Abdul Majeed Khan Sahib founded it in 1883. On July 23, 1889, Mr. R. Clark, the Delhi Deputy Commissioner at the time, formally opened it. Science and Modern Medicine were studied as part of this school’s curriculum. Later, Masih-ul-Mulk Hakim Ajmal Khan Sahib restored Madarasa e Tibbia in a new structure at Karol Bagh. H.E. Lord Harding, the Viceroy of India at the time, placed the institute’s foundation stone on March 29, 1916. On February 13, 1921, the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, officially opened this institution. A 300-bed hospital and college are situated in Karoli Bagh, the heart of Delhi. Its three principal structures, the Hospital Wing, the Academic Wing, and the Administrative Wing, feature a distinctive fusion of British and Mughal architectural styles. In addition to the college and hospital, a sizable campus of 33.33 acres features a staff residence, a minor stadium, a botanical garden, and hostels for boys and girls. The Tibbia College Act of 1952 established a Board to oversee this college and its affiliated divisions. The Delhi Tibbia College (Take Over) Act, 1998 has since superseded this Act, and as of May 1st, 1998, the college is under the jurisdiction of the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi. Ayurvedic & Unani Tibbia College is a coeducational institution that offers postgraduate courses in Kriya Sharir (Ayurveda Physiology), Kayachikitsa (Ayurveda Medicine), Munafe-ul-Aza (Unani Physiology), Amraz-e-Niswan-wa-Qabalat (Unani Gynaecology & Obstetrics), and Moalijat (Unani Medicine) in the Unani stream.

Separate undergraduate and graduate libraries are available at the college. The libraries include many screens and air conditioning. A sizable projection screen is available in the postgraduate library for use in seminars and presentations.
